It is a shotgun house (so called because you could stand at the front door, shoot, and the bullet would go out straight out the back door). When I remodeled I opened up and connected the two front rooms which gave me so much more light in both spaces. I hope you will come back for another visit! My prized Beverley Nichols book is 'Twenty-five' which I found at a used book shop off of Charing Cross Road in London in 2002. I paid two pounds for it. You can see it in the photo of a couple of books in the my secretary desk (second to last photo).
3. I was delighted to find that copy of 'Wild Strawberries'. What a fun book it is.
4. I hope you enjoy Mr. Grayson. I find that my breathing slows down when I read his words. So soothing.
5. We women of a certain age need to stick together!
6. I don't know what happened to Flavia. I enjoyed the first couple in the series but was so disappointed in the last one.

I post an entry every day so there is always something new here. I hope you will drop in often.
Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04335523622158333456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148557807474310110.post-14894339746322896722013-04-27T11:34:26.856-04:002013-04-27T11:34:26.856-04:00Thanks, Jo. I passed them by and then couldn't get them out of my mind so went back the next day and purchased them. I have never regretted it! That 'table' is really my desk. I love how it disappears in the room. The chair that I use is one that was in my father's family. I have a photo of my grandfather sitting in it. It fits perfectly at the desk and I am so glad to have it.Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04335523622158333456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148557807474310110.post-36671601661462419022013-04-27T11:29:38.187-04:002013-04-27T11:29:38.187-04:00Hi Margaret P. and welcome to Belle, Book, and Can...Hi Margaret P. and welcome to Belle, Book, and Candle. I would really prefer to have shelves lining every wall! I have had to restrain myself and try to keep books contained in the three main bookcases. I know I can move some of the decorative items and get more room when I need to. It is a challenge to keep things tidy!Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04335523622158333456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148557807474310110.post-38462348773185687952013-04-27T11:00:51.282-04:002013-04-27T11:00:51.282-04:00You and Danielle; two of my very favorite spots to...You and Danielle; two of my very favorite spots to spend time at. I am not familiar with Mr. Nichols's No Place Like Home but will add it to my list and be on the lookout for a copy. He is a wonderful writer! I also have a copy of "Twenty-five" by him. It is quite gossipy.

Richard Harris was a delight. And so handsome. And charming. I had an 'in' with one of the stagehands which is how I got backstage to meet him. There were a couple of other folks who had some connection with his hometown or his school...I can't quite remember. They sort of monopolized the conversation which was OK as I was too awestruck to say much.

I was the first to see him come out from his dressing room after changing, and he grabbed my hand, looked into my eyes and said, "I had no idea you were waiting for me." I swooned. He spent quite a bit of time chatting with us. I was thrilled to meet him! I have some of those same Beverely Nichols books and am currently reading No Place Like Home, at the recommendation of Pining for the West.

I wanted to meet Richard Harris when he was in Boston in Camelot. You're so lucky to have done it! Was he nice? I had such a crush on him when I was a teenager. What a lovely selection of books you have and what a pretty room they are in. I like the way items other than books are also on your shelves - sadly, I have too many books (yes, you can have too many, I think, but even though I've recently weeded them and 179 have gone, there is still not any room for more on shelves!) so no space for things other than books.
Margaret P
galanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14190356279359463949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9148557807474310110.post-34238162271502997762013-04-27T02:02:40.164-04:002013-04-27T02:02:40.164-04:00What a lovely home. I am still looking back through your posts, but see that we have quite a bit in common:
1. My first job was also a library page, but in our Central Library downtown in the History & Travel Dept.
2. I really like Beverly Nichols and have found a few of his books used
3.Thirkell's Wild Strawberries is one of my favorite books and def. my favorite of hers. Very jealous of your beautiful pink book, altho I do have a pretty paperback.
4.David Grayson sounds lovely and I downloaded four of his books to my Kindle app on ipad (hope they are readable!)
5.Our mothers were born 2 years apart, so I'm guessing that we are close in age
6.I loved the first few Flavia de Luce books, but after a few, one I abandoned (#4 maybe?) and never went back again.
Thanks for sharing your shelves, I have a new book blog to follow now.
