Spring Uncluttering and Rearranging

I have been doing a bit of Spring Uncluttering and Rearranging this past week and it has come to my attention that the books are taking over!

It is getting harder and harder to find places on my shelves for the strays that find their way onto side tables, chair seats, and into bags on the floor.

I try to keep my collection pretty much corralled on three shelving units. You can see them here at my contribution to Danielle's Lost in the Stacks which ran about a year ago. Believe me, the shelves are much fuller now.

Not that this abundance is a bad thing, but I do like my space to be tidy. And it gets harder and harder to part with books as my library is pretty much filled with ones that hold some sort of sentimental value for me - either because they come from my family library or they were purchased on a trip. And some I just simply want to keep.

I will have to be ruthless!

Perhaps I should have another Belle's Book Giveaway.

Or maybe I could just build more shelves...

What has been occupying your time now that Spring is here?

  1. I vote for building more shelves...but then I am a known book addict with my own problems! :) I am purging a bit myself--pulled a couple of books off my shelves and posted a few items on Craigslist, and I hope to take a bag of items to a local consignment store. One of my goals for 2014 was to purge my whole house of excess, but I haven't gotten very far. Still, I guess any progress is, well, progress.

    1. Oh, Kathy, I do love reading and thinking about purging my stuff...I just don't actually take action very often. I am trying to do the same as you this spring and at least am getting rid of the top layer of Stuff. The things I don't have to make a difficult decision about...I know they just need to go!

I don't know about you, but I don't usually buy things just to have them (except books, of course). Even at that, there seem to be many items that have found their way into my life and rooms!

And you are so right..any progress is progress.

  2. I know what you mean about the books taking over, and not having enough room on the shelves...it's a neverending battle trying to marshal my books. Sadly, some always have to go. :) Good luck with yours.

    1. Never ending is so right, Lark. I have decided I will try and tackle the 'coffee table' books (I don't even have a coffee table!) and maybe that will ease up some space on my shelves. I think part of the problem is that I don't just buy one book but instead come home with a stack!

    2. LOL. I so understand that! It seems like a crime to only buy one book at a time.
