Eureka! A Reading Pillow That Works

The Pyramid Reading Pillow

I have written a few times about the frustration of not being able to find a comfortable pillow designed for reading in bed.

That quest has come to a successful end. I am not one to tout products, but I do want to tell you about the Pyramid Pillow from Levenger.com. Instead of holding me, this pillow is designed to hold a book - paper or electronic - in my lap, on a desk, or in bed.

I love this pillow. It has a canvas cover, is filled like a beanbag, is lightweight, and has pockets to hold reading glasses, phone, or pen and paper. It even comes with its own screen-cleaning cloth. It measures about 10 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 9 inches high.

I can snuggle down in my bed, covers up to my chin, with my head propped up on pillows and rest this gem on my chest. My Kindle fits perfectly on the 'ledge' on one side of the pillow and is held at a comfortable angle for reading. I like my Kindle for reading in bed as I can increase the font size and can actually see the words on the page, er, screen.

A plus for me, besides the above, is that this small pillow sits on my bedside table holding the Kindle when I am not using it. I never could figure out where to put those bed rest pillows during the day. They were not very attractive and were so bulky they were difficult to store.

If you are interested in this companion to your nighttime reading, it is item number FA4235. It also comes in a tan/gray color (which isn't as attractive as my black/gray one). It costs $39. Levenger seems to always have some sort of sale going on so you could keep an eye out for a bargain. When I bought mine a few weeks ago, it was on sale and I got it for $34 including shipping.

Who knew that a little pillow could make me so happy!

A quest for the perfect reading pillow

Mystery author G.M. Malliet
Finished up Death at the Alma Mater. I do think author G.M. Malliet pulled a few tricks out of her hat in coming up with the denouement. I found myself saying "Huh?" now and again. But it was a fun read nonetheless. I see from her website that that is the last of the Inspector St. Just mysteries that she has written.

I spent most of my morning trying to get my new computer set up like I like it. A never ending battle. Thank heavens for Google. I Googled many questions on how to change certain settings and voila! someone else had already had the same problem and I found answers.

My new quest is to find the perfect back pillow for reading in bed. It seems that no matter how I arrange the sleeping pillows (of which there are six), I have not yet found the perfect combination. Anyone have a suggestion?

And so to bed...with the Nook

As sometimes happens, I find myself oddly restive after finishing one book and looking to start another. Last night was one of those nights. I had finished Envious Casca by Georgette Heyer the night before. I wandered down the hallway to bed but turned around to find a book to take with me. I studied the bookshelves.  During the day I like to read non-fiction, but in bed at night it is almost always a mystery to be found open on my stomach.

I hemmed...I hawed....I pulled out Queen of Kentucky, a book I bought a few weeks ago. I carried it with me and set it on the nightstand. By the time I had brushed my teeth and flossed I knew that it was going back on the shelf. I wasn't in the mood.

I studied the shelves again. Then remembered the Nook. Hurray, I have mysteries loaded on it! So I tracked it down, it was sitting on my desk, and lo and behold the battery was dead. Sigh.

So I plugged it in to charge and worked on a crossword puzzle. The Nook will let you read and charge at the same time but not if the battery is totally empty. So I gave it 15 minutes or so and picked up where I left off in A Lighthearted Quest.

It had been a while since I had read any of it and I spent a bit of time trying to figure out what was going on. I finally gave up and turned out the light.
