The good news is that Bill Bryson has a new book out. The bad news is that he writes his delightful books faster than I can read them.
I have three of his books on my shelves waiting to be read: At Home, A Walk in the Woods, and Neither Here Nor There. I have read two of his travel books: Notes from a Small Island (England) and The Lost Continent (America).

His new book is One Summer: America 1927. Here he does a bit of time travel and looks at some of the astounding events of that season: Lindbergh's flight; Babe Ruth's home run record; a shocking murder case; the movie The Jazz Singer; an execution; the flooding of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers; a prize fight; the Model A automobile; and, the beginnings of Mount Rushmore.
I am sure that in Mr. Bryson's capable hands this will be a fascinating read full of intriguing facts and laugh-out-loud asides as only he can write.
I may just have to sneak this one to the top of my TBR List.
I have read several of his books, my favorite being "In a Sunburned Country" about Australia. I read "A Walk in the Woods" last October while staying in a state park. Make sure that you are in a warm place when you read it. I'm not sure if I have read any of his other books because It would be before I was keeping track. (The Australia one was too, but so good I'll never forget it, although all I ever remember of the title is "Sunburned.")
ReplyDeleteLaura, "Sunburned" is on my list of his books to read. Mr. Bryson has written so many, I could spend the whole of 2014 just enjoying his works! I will make sure to be warm and cozy when I get around to reading "A Walk in the Woods". Thanks for the tip.
DeleteYet another thing we have in common: I love Bill Bryson's books. I admit I'm behind on them, also, however. This one sounds good, and I haven't read At Home yet either. My favorite (so far) is his collection of essays I'm a Stranger Here Myself. They make me laugh out loud.
